
BICARBONATE OF SODA
Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, is an alkali which is used to raise soda loaves of bread and other cakes. It gives off carbon dioxide to your batter which expands it. Once cooked, this carbon dioxide is replaced by air.
Baking soda can help reduce heartburn and strengthen your oral hygiene, given its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Bicarbonate of soda has endless uses. You can enjoy it in your dishes, beauty products and even for cleaning purposes (check out or technical bicarb of soda which is a different product). For its leavening agents to react it should be mixed with an acidic ingredient such as lemon juice, buttermilk, chocolate or honey. Really, its uses range from making your pancakes even fluffier to keep ants away from your plants.
