Using carob for health benefits goes back 4,000 years to ancient Greece. Naturally sweet and nutritious it can help satisfy your sugar cravings. Carob powder is gluten free, lactose free and caffeine free. It is also low in fat and calories. It is commonly substituted for chocolate, however while unsweetened carob powder may be sweeter than cocoa powder, it may not be considered as flavourful as chocolate and is quite earthy.
The chemical composition of carob is impressive with an abundance of useful elements. It contains a fair amount of potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper and manganese. It is rich in vitamins A, groups B and D. Carob powder contains virtually no fat, it is high in fiber and is a good source of antioxidants.

Carob powder is often used as a natural sweetener in baked goods and substitutes sugar in homemade baked goods and desserts. Mix 100 g of wheat and oat flour, 2 tbsp rye flour and 1 tsp baking powder. Pour 2 tbsp carob, _ tsp each of cinnamon and turmeric, _ tsp each crushed cloves and cardamom. Pour into the dry mixture 100 ml of boiled water and 3 tbsp vegetable oil, 200 g medium chopped nuts to your taste. Knead the dough, form the same gingerbread and send it to the oven preheated to 180 ¡ C for 20-25 minutes. Let them cool and grease with honey. This simple but tasty dessert can be enjoyed even with diabetes.
