Currants are a type of dried grape, a very small, seedless black raisin obtained from a special seedless Corinthian grape. The dried fruit is only 4 - 5 mm long. Currants grow in Greece and Ionian Islands. Just like raisins, these are dried for three weeks. Given its smaller size compared to raisins and sultanas, there is a higher concentration of a sweet, tangy and intense flavour. Rich in antioxidants, these are also a great source of potassium and fibre. As its taste indicates, these are high in sugar and should be eaten in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

HOW TO ENJOY

Great by itself as a snack, it can also be used in breakfast dishes like porridges, cheese platters, salads, scones and so much more! Currants are added to cookies and other baked goods a little more than the raisins we are used to.
